Binghamton police chief benched after girlfriend’s arrest

Binghamton’s top cop has been placed on leave after a video surfaced showing his girlfriend involved in a neighborhood brawl, according to Spectrum News 1. The off-duty chief, Joseph Zikuski, was present during the altercation in Johnson City.

Susan Rice, 44, was arrested and charged after allegedly attacking teens in what began as a verbal dispute. The mayor said her behavior implied a sense of immunity due to her ties to law enforcement — a suggestion he strongly condemned.

Mayor Jared Kraham has assigned Assistant Chief John Ryan as acting chief while the incident is under review. Johnson City Police are leading the investigation.
