Gillibrand pushes child care bill for police families

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand introduced a bill Monday in Elmira aimed at helping police families access child care, according to WETM. The proposal would fund $24 million annually to create or expand care services tailored to law enforcement’s unpredictable schedules.

The bipartisan measure would reserve 20% of funding for smaller departments and allow up to $3 million per agency. Gillibrand said the program could later expand to support firefighters, EMTs, and other critical workers if successful.

Agencies could build on-site care centers or enhance local services, based on community needs.
