Wells College hands Aurora control of water plant

After more than a year of talks, Wells College has agreed to transfer ownership of its water treatment plant and nearby infrastructure to the village of Aurora, according to The Citizen. The $10 deal includes the plant, a water tower, and a residence for the plant operator, pending state approval.

The facility, which has served Aurora for over a century, became a priority after Wells College announced its closure. Since fall 2024, the village has been running the plant under an interim agreement.

Local leaders praised the move as key to ensuring safe water for residents and businesses. The college is also pursuing a legacy partnership and considering offers for its 127-acre campus.
