Hochul may back limits on masked ICE agents

Gov. Kathy Hochul said she’s open to barring federal immigration agents from concealing their identities in New York, according to State of Politics. The comment follows criticism of plainclothes, masked ICE officers allegedly detaining multiple people in Saratoga Springs.

A new bill from Sen. Pat Fahy would prohibit ICE agents from using face coverings or disguises. Supporters say it aims to uphold due process and public safety without interfering with federal duties. Opponents, including Assembly Republicans, argue it could endanger law enforcement operations.

Hochul criticized the intimidation tactics but acknowledged ICE concerns about personal safety. Lawmakers remain divided after leaving Albany without passing major immigration reforms.
