A Canandaigua resident has been charged with welfare fraud after allegedly failing to report income while receiving public benefits, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said.
Detectives arrested 35-year-old Megen AguilarLopez of Lakeshore Drive on July 17. She faces charges of fifth-degree welfare fraud and petit larceny following a joint investigation with the Wayne County Department of Social Services.
Authorities allege AguilarLopez did not disclose employment income while receiving SNAP benefits. Between June 19 and September 30, 2024, she allegedly collected $989 in benefits she was not entitled to receive. She was released with an appearance ticket for Lyons Town Court.
