Arkport’s village board unanimously declined a $53,000 proposal from the City of Hornell for limited police coverage, citing affordability, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. The deal would have provided about 12 hours of weekly enforcement focused on traffic and parking.
With no local police department, Arkport relies on state and county agencies. Village officials remain concerned about speeding and school bus safety, particularly on East and West avenues.
Mayor George Prete said the board will explore other options, including potential talks with North Hornell or requesting greater presence from state and county law enforcement.
