Weis Vineyards named Winery of the Year in NY Wine Classic

A standout Finger Lakes winery has once again risen to the top at one of New York’s most prestigious wine competitions.

Weis Vineyards was named Winery of the Year at the 2025 New York Wine Classic, marking the second consecutive win and third overall for the Hammondsport-based producer. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award during a virtual ceremony hosted by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation.

The award recognizes Weis Vineyards’ strong showing across multiple categories, including Best White Wine for its 2024 Grüner Veltliner and Best Pink Wine for its 2024 Dry Rosé. The winery’s consistent quality and craftsmanship earned it the highest honor based on total medals and overall performance in the competition.

Another Finger Lakes producer, Billsboro Winery, took home the Best Dessert Wine award for its 2023 Après, while Montezuma Winery earned Best Specialty Wine for its Crimson Queen Cranberry & Rhubarb.

“The New York Wine Classic celebrates the very best of the state’s wine and grape industry,” said Governor Hochul, praising the high caliber of New York producers “from Lake Erie to the Finger Lakes to Long Island.”

Now in its 39th year, the New York Wine Classic is a nationally recognized showcase of the state’s top wines. More than 100 wineries entered nearly 700 wines in this year’s competition, judged by a panel of sommeliers, educators, and beverage experts organized in partnership with the Beverage Testing Institute.

Weis Vineyards’ win underscores the Finger Lakes region’s reputation as a hub for innovation and excellence in winemaking.
