Fresh off his shocking victory in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary, Zohran Mamdani traveled to Washington, D.C. to share his campaign strategy with House Democrats. The meeting, arranged by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, drew praise from some lawmakers who called Mamdani authentic and relatable.
Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democratic socialist, defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo last month. While many Democrats welcomed his messaging and social media savvy, others—particularly from suburban districts—voiced skepticism about his economic platform.
Mamdani also met with Sen. Bernie Sanders and is scheduled to sit down with House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries later this week, though Jeffries has yet to endorse him. The visit marked a key moment as national Democrats assess the party’s future direction.
