$50M in upgrades coming to Auburn prison

New York state has awarded nearly $50 million in contracts for major infrastructure upgrades at Auburn Correctional Facility, according to The Citizen.

The projects include steel and plumbing repairs, new roofing on six buildings, and expanded video surveillance systems. Four local and regional contractors, including Siracusa Mechanical and J&E Electric, secured key contracts as part of the effort.

The state’s 2025–26 budget earmarked $425 million for security improvements across prisons. While closure remains possible, the investment signals a commitment to maintaining Auburn’s 207-year-old facility.
