State Police investigate fatal shooting in Campbell

A man is dead following a neighborhood dispute that turned deadly in Steuben County earlier this month, according to the New York State Police.

Troopers and investigators from SP Painted Post responded to Parker Road in the town of Campbell on July 6 after receiving reports of a shooting. They found William C. Tong, 53, of Campbell, with a gunshot wound.

Tong was transported to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, where he died during surgery on July 7.

The second individual involved, identified as 41-year-old Devan J. Hall of Campbell, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Police say the events leading up to the shooting are still under review, and the investigation remains active.
