Steuben County residents now have weekly access to affordable, locally grown produce thanks to the Veggie Van, part of the SNAP-Ed Southern Finger Lakes initiative, according to the Elmira Star-Gazette. This mobile market accepts various payments, including SNAP, and aims to combat food insecurity.
Through October 22, the Veggie Van stops in Prattsburgh, Bath, Corning, Addison, Hornell, Canisteo, and other Steuben locations. Alongside produce sales, a six-week nutrition education series offers participants weekly food vouchers and cooking demos.
Coordinated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County, the program enters its fourth year with growing support from local farms and partners, helping connect rural communities to healthy food options.
