A woman was arrested in downtown Ithaca on Sunday evening following a domestic incident in which she allegedly threatened two people with a knife and later injured a police officer while in custody.
According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers responded to a report of a disturbance around 6:00 p.m. on July 6 at 118 E Green Street. The caller stated that a female suspect was menacing two individuals with a knife.
Upon arrival, officers identified the suspect as 28-year-old Haley Cleland of Ithaca. She was arrested at the scene and taken to the Ithaca Police Department. While in custody, police say Cleland became uncooperative and injured an officer during the intake process.
Cleland now faces multiple charges, including:
- Assault in the second degree, a Class C felony
- Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a Class D felony
- Criminal contempt in the first degree, a Class E felony
- Two counts of menacing in the second degree, Class A misdemeanors
- Obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor
- Criminal tampering in the third degree, a Class B misdemeanor
Cleland was arraigned and remanded to Tompkins County Jail. She is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
