Crash at Walworth intersection sends two to hospital

Two people were transported to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a crash at a busy intersection in the Town of Walworth.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 4:17 p.m. at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and West Walworth Road. Deputies said the driver of a northbound vehicle on West Walworth Road stopped at the posted stop sign but then failed to yield the right-of-way while entering the intersection.

The vehicle struck a westbound car on Atlantic Avenue, resulting in significant damage to both. The at-fault vehicle suffered damage to the passenger side, including door panels and frames. The other vehicle was damaged in the front. Airbags deployed in both cars.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by ambulance for further evaluation.

Deputies issued a traffic ticket to the at-fault driver for failure to yield the right-of-way.

Lincoln Fire Department, Ontario Town Ambulance, and Western Wayne Ambulance assisted at the scene.
