Habitat for Humanity of Yates County has begun construction on its 21st home, located on Bigelow Street in Dundee, after demolishing an unrepairable structure purchased at a tax sale, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The new build will house a local family contributing 500 hours of volunteer labor.
The organization also applauded new state legislation that allows local governments to fairly assess taxes on subsidized homes built by nonprofits. This reform aims to reduce tax burdens on low-income families and promote affordable homeownership.
Volunteers and donations of materials or food are still needed for the build.
