Tenney presses Hochul for answers on sanctuary state costs

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney is demanding answers from Governor Kathy Hochul over what she calls a failure to disclose the costs and consequences of New York’s sanctuary state policies.

In a letter sent Friday, Tenney criticized Hochul for not providing key information during her June 12 testimony before the House Oversight Committee, where lawmakers examined the impacts of such policies on public safety and taxpayer resources.

“Governor Hochul continues to fail the people of New York by prioritizing illegal aliens over the safety, security, and financial well-being of law-abiding citizens,” Tenney said. “She couldn’t provide basic information about how many illegal aliens are in our prisons or the cost to New York taxpayers.”

Tenney’s letter follows direct questioning during the committee hearing, where she requested figures on the number of undocumented immigrants in state prisons, total taxpayer-funded services for them, and the impact of New York’s Green Light Law. She said Hochul failed to respond and has not followed up as promised.

The congresswoman called on the governor to reverse what she described as “reckless sanctuary state policies” and vowed to continue pushing for reforms that prioritize New Yorkers.
