Schumer hospitalized for dehydration amid record heat wave

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was briefly hospitalized Wednesday due to dehydration as extreme heat scorched Washington, D.C., and New York, according to his office. The 74-year-old sought treatment after visiting the Senate Gym and has since returned to work.

Temperatures topped 100 degrees in D.C. for three consecutive days, with heat indices nearing 109. New York experienced similar conditions, with Central Park recording its hottest day since 2012. Power outages were reported in parts of New York City as the heat strained infrastructure.

Officials warn that the extreme heat poses serious risks, especially to vulnerable populations. Schumer urged the public to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure.
