A Rochester woman critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Canandaigua has died, according to an update from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Susan Labigan, 76, passed away on June 24 at Strong Memorial Hospital, two days after the collision at the intersection of County Road 28 and Emerson Road. Labigan had been airlifted to the hospital in critical condition following the June 22 crash.
The initial investigation found that Labigan was driving a blue 2016 Kia Soul eastbound on Emerson Road when she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. Her vehicle was struck by a northbound 2018 Ford F-250 driven by 20-year-old Ethan Michaelski of Palmyra.
The impact caused Labigan’s vehicle to overturn into a steep embankment. She was extricated from the wreckage by the Canandaigua Fire Department and treated at the scene by Canandaigua EMS before being flown by Mercy Flight Central to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Michaelski sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit responded, and the roadway remained closed for several hours during the investigation.
Authorities say the crash investigation remains open.
