The New York Met have called up No. 22 prospect right-hander Jonathan Pintaro from Triple-A Syracuse, the team announced Wednesday.
The club also recalled lefty Brandon Waddell from Triple-A and designated left-handers Richard Lovelady and José Castillo for assignment.
Pintaro, 27, has spent most of the season with Double-A Binghamton, where he started 11 games but rarely pitched beyond four innings. Despite the shorter outings, he impressed with a strikeout rate of 33% and a walk rate under 9%.
Although just promoted to Triple-A earlier this week, the Mets have opted to bring him straight to the big leagues, where he’s expected to work out of the bullpen in long relief.
Pintaro went undrafted in 2022 and began his professional career in the Independent Pioneer League. He joined the Mets organization last June and quickly climbed the ranks, recording a 2.68 ERA with more than a strikeout per inning across three minor league levels.
