Gananda’s Haley Conner earned a hero’s welcome after claiming the Class C state championship in the 400-meter race, according to the Times of Wayne County. Her winning time of 56.23 seconds secured the title and led to a community celebration with fire truck escorts.
Conner also placed fourth overall in the 400-meter federation race against athletes from larger schools and added a fourth-place finish in the Class C 200-meter. In total, she brought home three state medals.
Her performance cements her as one of the state’s top high school track athletes and a rising star in the sport.
