Downtown Port Byron building partially collapses, prompting road closure

A partial building collapse in Port Byron forced the closure of a busy intersection Saturday afternoon. Bricks and debris fell from the top of Advantage Auto Stores on Utica Street around 12:30 p.m., though no injuries were reported.

Emergency crews closed Routes 31 and 38 until about 6:15 p.m. while fencing off the damaged area. The store remains closed, though it was operational before the incident. Multiple agencies, including the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and state police, responded to the scene.

The cause of the collapse has not been publicly detailed, and the site remains under evaluation.
