A violent overnight storm tore through Oneida County, killing two young sisters and a woman in separate but eerily similar tragedies. Each fatality involved a tree crashing into a home—just blocks apart.
Emily and Kenni Bisson, 6-year-old twins, were asleep in their Clark Mills living room when a massive maple tree smashed through the roof of their rented home, according to Syracuse.com. Their mother, Kayleigh, survived after escaping through a window with help from neighbors. Meanwhile, Shelly Johnson, 50, was killed in her bed when another tree crushed her mobile home; her husband survived.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado with winds up to 95 mph. Survivors and responders alike remain shaken by the storm’s sudden violence and the narrow margin between life and death.
