Zeldin faces backlash over PFAS rule rollback

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is under fire from environmental groups accusing him of abandoning his prior stance on toxic “forever chemicals,” according to Spectrum News. As a congressman, Zeldin supported tough PFAS regulations, especially for his Long Island district, but critics now say he’s undermining water safety by weakening those same protections.

The EPA recently delayed enforcement and is reconsidering limits set during the Biden administration. Zeldin argues the move corrects procedural errors and protects consumers from higher water bills. He says his commitment to tackling PFAS remains unchanged.

Long Island advocates say the rollback could postpone critical water cleanup projects, extending health risks. The EPA defends its new approach as both science-based and legally sound, but legal challenges may be looming.
