Geneva golf tournament to honor beloved teacher and support local youth

The Salvation Army of Geneva will hold its 8th Annual Golf Tournament this August, combining community spirit with a heartfelt tribute to a cherished local educator.

The event, set for Saturday, August 9 at Big Oak Golf Course, will raise funds for the organization’s youth programs and pay tribute to the late Terry Muffley, a former Geneva City School District teacher and longtime Salvation Army volunteer.

“Our annual Golf Tournament is now a tradition and a great way for our donors to have a fun day on the course – but also make to a lasting impact on the lives of local children,” said Major Eunice Champlin of The Salvation Army of Geneva.

Proceeds will help fund summer camp experiences at The Salvation Army’s Long Point Camp on Seneca Lake. At camp, children participate in structured activities such as fishing, boating, hiking, archery, and arts and crafts, aimed at enriching their summer break.

Muffley, who served more than 30 years as a teacher and coach, also played a vital role on the Salvation Army’s Advisory Board and often volunteered alongside his family at events and fundraisers.

“As a teacher and coach in the Geneva City School District for more than 30 years, Terry’s passion for education extended beyond the classroom leaving a lasting impact on many young lives,” Champlin said. “That impact was also felt in the community as Terry and his family would routinely volunteer at Salvation Army events and fundraisers to help those in need in our community. He truly represented The Salvation Army’s mission of Doing The Most Good.”

Organizers are currently seeking silent auction donations, which can be dropped off at the Geneva citadel at 41 North St. More details, including ticket sales and sponsorships, are available at give.salvationarmy.org/GenevaGolf25.
