Jobless claims rise in New York amid broader stability

Unemployment claims in New York climbed last week, signaling a possible uptick in layoffs, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Initial claims rose to 14,818 for the week ending June 7, up from 13,493 the previous week.

While New York saw an increase, nationwide filings held steady at 248,000. Iowa reported the largest surge, with claims up 175.5%, while Kentucky saw the sharpest drop at 72.3%.

The report reflects varying economic conditions across states, with some regions showing resilience while others face workforce instability.
