The New York Mets placed right-hander Kodai Senga on the injured list Friday after he exited Thursday’s win over the Washington Nationals with a strained hamstring.
Senga sustained the injury while covering first base on a CJ Abrams groundout, leaping to catch Pete Alonso’s throw. He landed awkwardly and clutched his right leg before being helped off the field. Manager Carlos Mendoza said Senga felt something before the jump.
Senga had thrown 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. The 32-year-old has been outstanding this season, entering Thursday’s game with a 1.59 ERA over 12 starts.
In response to the injury, the Mets recalled right-hander Max Kranick from Triple-A Syracuse. Meanwhile, starters Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea are nearing returns.
The Mets extended their win streak to six games Thursday and currently hold the best record in Major League Baseball.
