Savona family seeks help after devastating storm damage

A Savona family is asking for community support after a powerful storm on June 9 severely damaged their home, leaving it uninhabitable.

Heather Butler, who organized the fundraiser, says she brought her two children to her parents’ house that evening after spotting a funnel cloud forming over her own home. Soon after they arrived, heavy winds, rain, and hail struck—and a large tree fell directly onto the roof where they were sitting. “Thankfully, we were sitting under a steel beam and were physically unharmed,” Butler said.

The damage didn’t stop there. Within minutes, floodwaters began rushing into the house, causing extensive damage to the foundation, floors, and walls. While insurance will help cover the tree damage, it won’t cover the widespread water damage. According to Butler, “Their house is currently unlivable. The floors are sinking, the walls are cracking and shifting.”

Her parents are now staying with her family, but the path to rebuilding is expected to be long and expensive. “They never ask for help—but now, they truly need it,” Butler wrote.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist with recovery costs. Butler encouraged others to donate, share the story, or simply offer prayers and support. “Thank you for being part of our village,” she said.
