Bristol Valley Theater will host Frederick Douglass Day this Saturday in Naples, celebrating the abolitionist’s historic 1852 visit, according to organizers. The event, held from noon to 3 p.m., will include live music, a reenactment, and a community potluck.
Douglass once spoke in Naples after local ministers refused to host him, prompting resident William “Uncle Billy” Marks to build an outdoor venue so more than 300 could hear Douglass address slavery.
The free event invites guests to bring a dish, utensils, and a blanket or chair to enjoy the outdoor celebration.
