The Pride Lands are coming to Watkins Glen as The Lake Country Players bring Disney’s The Lion King JR. to the stage with a vibrant cast of 80 young actors from across five counties.
Performances begin June 12 at the Watkins Glen High School auditorium and feature youth from Schuyler, Chemung, Steuben, Yates, and Tompkins Counties, ranging in age from 7 to 18. Audiences can expect beloved songs, colorful costumes, and powerful performances.
“This is not just a show—it’s a celebration of youth, talent, and community,” said co-directors Alex and Kelsey Gill. The production features music direction by Kim Laursen and choreography by Kelsey Gill, with iconic songs like “Hakuna Matata,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”
Due to overwhelming talent during auditions, the production uses double casting for many roles. Lead characters include Grady Cole as Simba; Meghan Cleary and Melanie Peterson as Nala; Gabriel Locke as Mufasa; Alex Campbell and Nicholas Brusso as Scar; and many more.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. June 12–14 and 2 p.m. on June 15. Tickets are available at the door: $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students. Children under 5 attend free.
Friday’s performance will include ASL interpreters for Deaf and Hard of Hearing families, with special seating available.
This youth theater production is made possible through support from local donors, the Watkins-Montour Rotary, and the Schuyler County Youth Bureau.
