Concerned Citizens of NY24 will host a public forum at the Smith Opera House on June 17 to address growing questions about the impact of the federal “Big Beautiful Bill” on Social Security and other critical programs.

The event, set for 7–8:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., will feature subject matter experts and offer local residents a platform to voice concerns and ask questions. Organizers say the forum is non-partisan and aimed at fostering civil, respectful dialogue.

The forum follows the House of Representatives’ passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill” as part of the federal budget reconciliation process, which has sparked debate over its potential effects on essential services. With limited communication from NY-24 Representative Claudia Tenney, community members are organizing to better understand the legislation and urge representation of public consensus.

Both U.S. Senators from New York, Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, have confirmed they will send staff representatives to attend. Representative Tenney has been invited, but organizers report no response from her office for this event. Prior forums have also lacked participation from Tenney, according to the group.

Past forums held by Concerned Citizens of NY24 have drawn hundreds of attendees and maintained a respectful tone, organizers noted.
