The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has announced its Spring 2025 Scholar-Athlete teams and individual honorees, recognizing an impressive 48,917 student-athletes across the state for excelling both in the classroom and in competition.
This marks the 32nd year of the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete program, which honors students who achieve an individual GPA of 90 or higher, regardless of team standing. A total of 3,149 teams were also named Scholar-Athlete teams by meeting the requirement that 75% of the team roster earned an average of 90 or above.
This spring’s results reflect significant growth from last year, with more than 1,700 additional students and over 100 more teams receiving honors compared to the spring 2024 season.
“Congratulations to the student-athletes for their hard work and dedication in both academics and athletics,” said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “We also commend the 583 participating schools for emphasizing the value of education as a key part of the high school experience.”
Throughout the 2024–2025 academic year, more than 140,000 student-athletes and 10,866 teams have earned Scholar-Athlete recognition through NYSPHSAA’s initiative. Schools submit their rosters and academic data each season through the association’s online platform.
NYSPHSAA will announce its School of Excellence and School of Distinction honors later this summer for schools with exceptional academic performance. The deadline for schools to apply is Monday, June 30.
