Seneca Falls veteran enters GOP primary for town board

A Seneca Falls native and decorated U.S. Army veteran has announced his candidacy for the Town Board in the upcoming June 24 Republican primary. He joins several others who are also going to be on the ticket in the primary.

Ken Hilkert, a former helicopter pilot who served in Afghanistan, is running on a platform centered on professionalism, accessibility, and a commitment to community-first leadership. “Serving my country as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, then continuing that service with the New York State Police, and now flying with Mercy Flight, I’ve dedicated my life to protecting and supporting others,” Hilkert said.

Hilkert’s background includes service as a New York State Trooper, sergeant, and investigator. He now works as a pilot for Mercy Flight Central. Though he is new to politics, Hilkert said his career of public service has prepared him to lead with integrity and competence. “I’m new to the political game, and that’s exactly why I’m running—to bring a fresh, grounded perspective to town leadership,” he stated.

If elected, Hilkert pledges to hold regular office hours and serve as a direct resource for residents. “I want to be a representative who listens, leads with professionalism, and brings a steady, level-headed approach to local government,” he said.

Hilkert emphasized his lifelong connection to Seneca Falls as a driving force behind his campaign. “This town shaped me, and now I want to help shape its future,” he said. Voters are encouraged to contact him directly at [email protected].

He is seeking voter support to bring “professionalism, order, and a renewed sense of public service” to the Town Board.
