Martin family takes over Swedish Hill Winery & Vineyard (video)

The Martin family has officially acquired Swedish Hill Winery & Vineyard in Romulus, expanding their presence in New York’s Finger Lakes wine region.

Previously owned by the Peterson family since 1986, Swedish Hill has become known for its popular wines across the state. Dick and Cindy Peterson began the venture by planting vines in 1969 to supply grapes to Taylor Winery. The Martins, who already operate Montezuma Winery & Hidden Marsh Distillery, Idol Ridge Winery & Alder Creek Distillery, and Penguin Bay Winery, now add Swedish Hill to their portfolio.

“After almost 25 years in the Finger Lakes wine industry, we are beyond excited to add Swedish Hill Winery & Vineyard to our portfolio,” said co-owner Bill Martin. “This acquisition will allow us to increase our sparkling wine production and custom work, which we are really looking forward to.”

The Martins plan to preserve the existing wine lineup while incorporating their own vision and style.

“We don’t plan on making any major changes to the Swedish Hill portfolio, but we are excited to make it our own,” Martin added. “Throughout all of our locations, we pride ourselves on our commitment to phenomenal customer service, innovative and forward-thinking, and creating a family-centered atmosphere for both our staff and customers.”

The winery’s tasting room is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering tastings at the bar and wine by the glass, with outdoor seating available. Swedish Hill wines continue to be sold in the tasting room and most liquor stores across the state.
