Man charged in Auburn for thefts at Planet Fitness and Walmart

A Clyde man already in jail for another crime now faces new charges connected to two separate thefts in Auburn.

Travis J. Ryan, 35, was arrested by Auburn Police on May 20 after investigators linked him to incidents at Planet Fitness and Walmart earlier this year. Police say Ryan stole a wallet from a locker at Planet Fitness on March 25 and tried to use a stolen credit card at the Auburn Walmart. The victim was able to cancel the card before it could be used.

On March 28, police say Ryan also stole a woman’s purse from her shopping cart at Walmart after distracting her. The suspect fled but dropped the purse when the victim yelled for help.

Ryan has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and attempted identity theft in the third degree for the Planet Fitness incident. He also faces a grand larceny charge in the fourth degree related to the Walmart theft. He was issued appearance tickets while being held at Cayuga County Jail.
