Auburn has purchased parts of two properties to move forward with a long-planned project to widen the intersection at North Street and Standart Avenue, according to The Citizen. The city paid $2,100 for land at 2 Standart Ave. and $1,100 for a portion of 204 North St., acquiring only the needed frontage—not the homes themselves.
City officials say the expansion will improve the turning radius and overall traffic flow at the high-volume intersection, which sees more than 10,000 vehicles daily. Design work is underway with $31,936.99 in state funds, while construction is expected to cost $566,000.
The roadwork may also support a proposed $24 million, 50-unit apartment project nearby, which has raised concerns about future traffic congestion.
