An Auburn man is facing multiple charges after police say he violated a court-issued protection order and was found with crack cocaine during a search incident to arrest.
According to a media release from the Auburn Police Department, officers observed 55-year-old Jeffrey W. Strachan Sr. walking with a protected individual on State Street near Kwik Fill around 6:28 p.m. on May 14. The victim had an active stay-away order of protection issued by Auburn City Court as the result of a previous domestic incident.
Strachan was taken into custody without incident for violating the protection order. During a search, officers discovered a quantity of crack cocaine on his person. Police noted that Strachan had a prior conviction for a specified family offense within the past five years, which elevated the new charges to felony level.
He was charged with:
- Aggravated Family Offense (felony)
- Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree (misdemeanor)
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (misdemeanor)
Strachan was processed and transported to Cayuga County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
