Although federal stimulus checks ended years ago, some states are still sending out direct payments in May 2025. These include tax rebates, inflation relief programs, and guaranteed income pilots that are providing eligible residents with extra cash this month.
Here are the states where payments are being issued:
California
California’s Guaranteed Income Pilot in cities like Los Angeles, Stockton, and San Francisco continues sending monthly payments in May. Depending on the program, residents may receive between $500 and $1,200 per month.
The Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors program in Oakland is also issuing $500 monthly checks to selected low-income families.
Alaska
Eligible Alaskans are receiving their Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) for 2024 and any remaining supplemental energy relief this month. The 2024 PFD was $1,312, and payments are going out in batches through May.
New Mexico
The state is still processing 2023 tax rebates for residents who filed their returns. Most taxpayers can expect $500 for single filers or $1,000 for joint filers. Direct deposits and checks are being sent throughout May.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is issuing Property Tax/Rent Rebates of up to $1,000 for older and disabled residents. Eligible applicants who filed in early 2025 are receiving payments this month via direct deposit or mail.
Montana
Some Montana residents are getting income tax rebates of up to $1,250. These payments are going out in waves and continue through May for those who filed early.
What to do if you haven’t received your payment
If you believe you’re eligible for a May 2025 payment but haven’t received it:
- Check your state’s Department of Revenue or Treasury website.
- Look up eligibility criteria, especially for programs like guaranteed income or rebates.
- Confirm your mailing address or bank info is up to date.
Some programs require online applications, while others automatically issue payments based on tax filings.
What’s next?
More states are expected to send out summer payments starting in June. If you live in a state with an ongoing or upcoming relief program, stay informed by checking official government sites.
We’ll continue tracking state payments and stimulus programs throughout 2025.
