Ontario County officials will host a public meeting next month to present proposed safety improvements for a crash-prone intersection in the Town of Canandaigua.
The open house will take place Wednesday, June 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Town Court Room at Canandaigua Town Hall, located at 5440 Route 5&20 West.
The project targets the intersection of County Road 32 and Hickox Road, which has a crash rate over four times the New York State average for similar intersections. Officials are considering converting the two-way stop to an all-way stop or a modern roundabout.
A brief presentation will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m. Representatives from Ontario County will be present to answer questions and collect public input. Attendees will also have the opportunity to review plans and submit written comments during the event. The public comment period will remain open through Friday, June 27.
Town Highway Superintendent Jim Fletcher endorsed the roundabout option, calling it a proactive solution to improve safety. “Roundabouts have been proven to significantly reduce the frequency and severity of accidents,” Fletcher said. “I urge community leaders and planners to move forward with this project.”
Town Supervisor Jared Simpson emphasized the importance of community input. “This is an important opportunity for our residents to engage in a conversation about local infrastructure and public safety,” he said. “I encourage everyone who travels this route to attend the open house, review the plans, and share their input.”
Project documents will be available for review at the Ontario County Department of Public Works from June 12 to June 27, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and online at the county’s website.
Those unable to attend may submit comments by phone, email, or mail. Submissions must be postmarked by June 27.
