United Way breaks volunteer record on Day of Caring

United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes hosted its largest-ever Day of Caring on May 15, mobilizing 6,400 volunteers across six counties to support 180 nonprofit agencies.

Now in its 31st year, the annual event included volunteers from over 200 workplaces completing 425 community projects in Monroe, Livingston, Genesee, Ontario, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.

“The record-breaking number of volunteers that rolled up their sleeves for our nonprofits is a profound reminder of the caring power of this community,” said United Way President & CEO Jaime Saunders.

Projects ranged from painting and planting community gardens to organizing clothing and food donations. Volunteers also engaged directly with older adults and assembled 600 supply kits for 13 local nonprofits.

“This Day of Caring, we saw changemakers in action from all corners of our region,” said 2025 Campaign Chair Vince Lecce.

The Day of Caring was sponsored by Constellation Brands and coordinated through United Way’s Volunteer United platform. Teams also had the chance to win $250 for their nonprofit site through a social media contest.
