Syracuse’s season came to a close with a 9-8 loss to fifth-ranked Yale in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. Despite a breakout performance from Ashlee Volpe, the Orange finished the year with a 10-9 record.

Volpe, a freshman, tied her career high with four goals, matching her total from Syracuse’s regular-season visit to Yale. She led an impressive run of five straight goals in the first half that flipped a 3-0 deficit into a 5-3 Syracuse lead. First-years Caroline Trinkaus and Bri Peters also contributed to the offensive push, combining for three goals and an assist.

Syracuse held a 7-4 lead early in the second half after goals from Trinkaus and Peters, but the Bulldogs responded with a late surge, scoring five of the final six goals to edge the Orange.

In net, Danny Guyette stood tall with 11 saves, her eighth game this season with double-digit stops. Defender Izzy Lahah anchored the back line with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Box Score

This marked Syracuse’s 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance, and the Orange now hold a 29-22 all-time record in postseason play.
