Finger Lakes hospitals get mixed safety scores in new rankings

Finger Lakes hospitals received a wide range of safety grades in a new report by Leapfrog, according to the New York State Team. While Clifton Springs Hospital earned a top A grade, others in the region fared worse, with Geneva General, Highland, and Strong Memorial hospitals all receiving Ds.

Most other hospitals in the region landed in the middle. Rochester General, Unity, and several UR Medicine facilities—including Thompson and Noyes—received Cs. Newark-Wayne also earned a C. None of the hospitals in the Finger Lakes were recognized with the elite “straight A” status awarded to top performers statewide.

New York ranked 31st in the nation overall, a slight improvement from last year. The report cited ongoing issues with infection control and inconsistent safety practices across the state.
