The REAL ID law officially took effect Wednesday, and travelers without a compliant ID could face issues at airport security. Adults over 18 now need a REAL ID, enhanced ID, or passport to board domestic flights.
While many travelers said they updated their licenses years ago, airport staff noted a number of passengers still lack the new identification. Some welcomed the added security measure, while others said it doesn’t make them feel any safer.
Those needing a REAL ID should book DMV appointments soon, as in-person slots are filling quickly.
