Kanakadea Park closes after flooding damages grounds

  • Staff Report

Kanakadea Park will remain closed through the weekend due to flooding and safety concerns, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. Heavy rains along the Almond Dam left the park flooded with debris, prompting Steuben County officials to shut it down.

The county’s Department of Public Works is monitoring the situation, while nearby Route 21 was also closed after water covered a bridge, blocking inspections. Southwestern Steuben and eastern Allegany counties reported widespread road damage and swollen rivers after days of heavy rain.

Officials pledged updates as conditions improve and thanked the public for their patience during the cleanup.
