The Cortland Standard will resume publishing on May 17 after shutting down in March, according to Sample News Group. The 158-year-old paper filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy citing rising costs and looming tariffs, eliminating 17 jobs.
Sample News Group acquired the paper’s assets and announced plans to revive the publication, with former advertising director Mindy Lawrence stepping in as Group Publisher. Lawrence said work to relaunch began almost immediately after the closure, emphasizing a commitment to public service and community engagement.
Many former employees are expected to return, and the newspaper will stick to its previous Tuesday-to-Saturday schedule.
