Heavy rainfall overnight has led to widespread flooding concerns across the Finger Lakes and Central New York this morning, prompting multiple flood watches and warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS).
Flood watches remain in effect across the region

A Flood Watch remains in effect through 8 a.m. for Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Ontario, and Allegany counties. The NWS Binghamton office also extended its Flood Watch through this morning for Seneca, Yates, Southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Tompkins, Schuyler, Steuben, Madison, Cortland, and both Northern and Southern Oneida counties.
Flood warning issued for parts of Cayuga, Cortland, and Onondaga counties
At 6:13 a.m., the NWS issued a Flood Warning for portions of Cayuga, Cortland, and Onondaga counties, including Auburn, Moravia, Skaneateles, and surrounding communities. Emergency officials reported flooding near Skaneateles Creek in Jordan. In addition, the Owasco Inlet at Moravia has entered minor flood stage and is expected to remain elevated for several hours.
Rainfall totals have reached up to three inches in some areas, and an additional 0.2 inches of rain is possible through mid-morning.
Weather expected to improve later today
Periods of moderate rainfall continue across parts of the northern Finger Lakes and western Mohawk Valley early this morning. According to the National Weather Service, steady rainfall will gradually taper off by late morning, with lighter showers lingering east of the Genesee Valley through the afternoon.
Widespread flooding risk will diminish by midday, but small streams, low-lying areas, and poor drainage spots may still experience localized flooding. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads and follow the guidance: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
Cooler air expected by Thursday
A cold front is forecast to move through the region tonight, bringing cooler and drier conditions for Thursday. However, unsettled weather could briefly return Thursday night into Friday as another disturbance develops to the southeast. Dry and warmer weather is expected to arrive by the weekend.
