Dryden moves forward with bridge for rail trail

  • Staff Report

Dryden officials received state approval to seek bids for a $3.5 million bridge connecting two sides of the Dryden Rail Trail, according to The Tompkins Weekly. The bridge over Route 13 will link key trail sections and boost recreation, transportation, and economic growth when completed.

The project, backed by more than $3 million in grants and local contributions, will reclaim the old Lehigh Valley Railroad corridor for public use. Officials aim to finish construction this year, completing a 14.4-mile trail connecting Dryden, Freeville, Etna, and beyond.

The bridge is seen as vital for ensuring continuous, safe access along the trail. Final land easements and additional funding efforts are still underway as the town prepares for the next construction phase.
