Langworthy hails House vote blocking New York EV mandate

Congressman Nick Langworthy praised the House of Representatives’ passage of H.J.Res.88, calling it a major victory against New York’s plan to phase out gas-powered vehicles.

Langworthy, who represents New York’s 23rd District, released a statement on Wednesday celebrating the resolution’s approval, which reverses the EPA’s decision allowing California to ban gas-powered car sales by 2035.

“I am very pleased that H.J.Res. 88 passed the House today, reversing the EPA’s decision to allow California to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035,” Langworthy said. He warned that forcing Americans into electric vehicles was “nonsensical and dangerous” and would have placed unfair burdens on car dealerships.

Langworthy referenced his earlier bipartisan letter to Governor Kathy Hochul in February, urging her to reconsider adopting California’s policy in New York. He argued that the electric vehicle sales mandate could have led to dealerships stockpiling unsold vehicles, resulting in layoffs and other economic fallout for New York’s automotive workforce.

“This legislation’s passage in the House is a huge win for our auto-industry consumers, dealerships, and workers,” Langworthy said. He called on the Senate to quickly pass the measure so that President Trump could sign it into law.
