Severe thunderstorms that swept through New York on Tuesday left thousands without power, though outages have now dropped to around 1,000 across the Finger Lakes region, according to NYSEG.
High winds, hail, and downed trees caused widespread damage, initially knocking out power to over 20,000 customers statewide. NYSEG reports significant progress, with more than 900 field personnel still working to restore service. Damage was heaviest in the Geneva, Ithaca, and Oneonta divisions.
Officials urge residents to avoid storm debris, which may conceal dangerous live wires.
