Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan voiced strong support Monday for U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan’s visit to Rochester, denouncing local sanctuary policies and accusing city officials of endangering public safety.
Homan visited Rochester on April 29 to highlight what he called the risks of sanctuary city practices. Gallahan, a Republican representing the 131st Assembly District, issued a statement endorsing Homan’s message and criticizing the city’s approach to immigration enforcement.
“I commend White House Border Czar Tom Homan for spotlighting the dangers of sanctuary city policies in Rochester,” Gallahan said. “These policies protect criminals over law-abiding citizens and put our communities at risk.”
Gallahan specifically called out the Rochester Police Chief for backing sanctuary policies and opposing collaboration with federal immigration authorities. “That’s unacceptable,” he said. “Our police officers deserve support, not political interference from the mayor or the police chief.”
Emphasizing his alignment with federal and local law enforcement, Gallahan added, “I stand with Tom Homan and the countless law enforcement officers who are committed to protecting our communities. It’s time for our local and state leaders to stop playing politics and start backing the brave men and women in blue.”
Gallahan’s 131st District includes parts of Ontario, Seneca, Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Broome, and Chenango counties.
