Attorney urges state to delay landfill expansion review

The attorney representing opponents of Seneca Meadows landfill’s expansion has asked New York officials to delay ruling on the project’s environmental review, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Doug Zamelis argued the draft EIS must address Local Law 3-2016, which bans solid waste disposal in Seneca Falls after 2025.

The state’s highest court recently upheld Local Law 3, complicating Seneca Meadows Inc.’s plan to extend operations through 2040. Zamelis contends the landfill’s proposal violates local law and state climate goals, urging the DEC to revise the review process.

He also called for a formal adjudicatory hearing to fully assess the environmental and community impacts before any permits are granted.
