More than 60 volunteers braved the rain Saturday morning to clean the Owasco River area in downtown Auburn as part of Earth Day 2025 celebrations.

According to the Auburn Beautification Commission, Inc., volunteers filled an entire dump truck with trash, permanently removing debris from the river area. The cleanup was part of a series of Earth Day events sponsored by the Auburn Beautification Commission, Cayuga Climate Action, Auburn Downtown BID, the City of Auburn, City of Auburn Parks & Recreation, and Auburn Public Theater.

Funding for the 2025 Owasco River Clean-up was provided in part by a Great Lakes Great Responsibility Spring 2025 Great Lakes Cleanup Mini Grant.

Organizers extended a “huge THANK YOU” to everyone who participated and helped make a visible impact despite the rainy conditions.
